Privacy policy.
Effective 24 October 2026
bcook develops Trill. The app connects your iPhone or iPad directly to the Trill companion on your computer. The developer does not run a relay or receive your terminal sessions through Trill. The app has no advertising, analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking.
Data on your device
Trill keeps your computer's name, address, certificate fingerprint, and access credential in this device's Keychain. These details are available only while the device is unlocked and do not sync to other devices. Trill saves terminal preferences locally. It holds terminal screens, project and session details, and unsent drafts in memory while the app runs. After an interruption, Trill does not submit drafts automatically. The app does not intentionally save terminal transcripts on your phone.
Data on your computer
The companion receives authenticated requests, the device name you choose, terminal input, session goals and actions, and selected photos. It saves device registrations and pairing details locally. Xirp and the programs you run in the terminal may also save history, prompts, files, and logs. You control their storage and retention on your computer.
Project files and page previews
When you browse the workspace, Trill requests folder listings and the project files or session photos you open from your Mac, then displays them on your device. Browser previews use a WebKit data store that does not persist between browser sessions. The companion forwards local development pages using a separate preview credential that expires. Direct HTML and SVG file previews disable scripts and web network resources, and read only supported local assets from the selected folder. Trill contacts ordinary websites over the network. Pages can run scripts, load resources from other services, and process your interactions under their own policies. Closing the browser releases its preview connection. The servers that host those pages may keep logs.
Coding agents and third-party AI
Starting a coding session sends your goal to the agent configured for that project on your computer. The agent may send terminal input and files it can access, including uploaded photos, to its AI provider. Your Mac's configuration determines which provider the agent uses and its privacy, training, and retention settings. Trill does not choose the provider or access its account settings. Check the provider in Xirp or the agent on your computer before sending sensitive information. Trill asks for permission before you start a coding session, open a terminal, or choose photos to upload. You can choose to remember terminal permission for a paired computer. Photo-upload approval is remembered separately for that pairing. These choices apply until you reset them in Connection details, forget the computer, or pair it again. A change of address, access credential, or pinned certificate requires permission again. Coding-session and photo-upload permissions remain separate. You can cancel any of these actions or disconnect to stop further input from Trill. The agent or provider controls data it has already received under its own policies and deletion controls.
Photos and camera
The system photo picker gives Trill access only to images you select. After you give permission, choosing an image immediately uploads a JPEG copy to private companion storage on your Mac. Trill reduces the longest edge to at most 2048 pixels and re-encodes the image without location or EXIF metadata. The copy stays on your Mac if you close the draft or forget the computer. Delete it from companion storage when you no longer need it. Inserting the file path does not press Return. The remote program decides how it reads files and input. Trill uses the camera only to scan pairing codes. Apple's system keyboard handles dictation under your device settings; Trill does not record microphone audio.
Networks and external links
Trill uses HTTPS for companion API requests and Mosh encryption for terminal traffic. On a local network, traffic goes directly to your computer. If you use Tailscale or another VPN, that service handles network traffic under its own policies and configuration. Opening a terminal link in a browser contacts that website under its policies.
Retention, deletion, and your choices
Forget computer removes the primary pairing credential from this device and closes Trill's connections. You can discard an unfinished pairing separately on the pairing screen. Forgetting the computer or uninstalling Trill does not revoke its device registration on your Mac, delete uploaded files or Xirp history, or stop sessions. Run "trill devices" and "trill revoke DEVICE_ID" on the Mac to revoke access. Delete uploaded photos from ~/.local/share/trill/attachments or the custom attachment directory you configured. Delete session data through Xirp and the programs or providers you used. You can deny camera access and paste a pairing link instead. To stop further sharing, cancel an action, disconnect, or forget the computer.
Support and website
If you email trill@bcook.io, the developer receives your email address, message, and any attachments you send. The developer uses this correspondence to respond and keeps it as needed to resolve your request and maintain support records. You can request deletion by email, subject to legal retention requirements. Leave out credentials, pairing codes, terminal secrets, and private project content. Website hosting providers may process request details such as your IP address, browser information, and request time to deliver and secure trill.bcook.io. The website has no advertising or analytics scripts, signup forms, or tracking cookies.
Children and changes
Trill is a developer tool and is not intended for children under 13. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children. When features or data practices change, the developer will update this policy and the effective date above.
